The biography of Champlain Charest written by Robert Bernier

Radiologist, entrepreneur, great wine enthusiast, restaurateur, and art collector, Dr. Champlain Charest has just celebrated his 95th birthday. This biography traces the exceptional journey of a man who has lived for nearly a century with uncommon curiosity, energy, and zest for life.

An essential figure in Quebec's wine and restaurant world, Champlain Charest has always cultivated his passions to the fullest. His journey took him from medicine to entrepreneurship, from grand bottles to fine dining, and into the art world, where he distinguished himself as a collector and generous donor.

The book also delves into his intense friendship with Jean Paul Riopelle, a meeting between two complete, excessive, and profoundly free personalities. A friendship marked by complicity and ups and downs, but whose bonds never truly broke.

Beyond wine, art, and professional achievements, this biography mainly reveals the man behind the persona: his enthusiasms, his contradictions, his excesses, and the intimate drive so well summarized by the title: The fear of missing out... The need to be loved.

A fascinating life story, at the crossroads of Quebec history, wine, gastronomy, and art.

NEW ARRIVAL AT VINUM DESIGN

Simplify life with the “One for All” wine glass! Ideal for every type of wine and made of lead-free crystal, each StandArt glass is molded as one piece, seamless, with no stress points.

The broader base of the bowl of the glass — a precise 95 millimeters — and the conical shape at the top of the glass— allows for the “nose” of a wine, its top, middle and base notes to emerge in the glass, helping to express even the most subtle aromas, and flavors.

Weighing 5 oz (145 grams), the Gabriel-Glas StandArt glass is elegant, yet amazingly durable and dishwasher safe. The StandArt glass is ideal for any “Monday night wine” and perfect for collectible wine.

Gabriel-Glas is the “One for All” wine glass created by the well known Swiss/German wine critic René Gabriel. Not finding a wine glass that performed to Gabriel’s satisfaction, and with the contention that varietal specific wine glasses are superfluous, he – along with Austrian master glass technicians – created Gabriel-Glas. It is a “universal” lead-free crystal wine glass of unsurpassed quality. “One for All” — ideal for any style or color of wine.
